Why shop sustainably??

3 statistics that will change your

view on the fashion industry

FOREVER

1. LANDFILL
The Australian Bureau of Statistics indicates that about 500,000 tonnes of leather and textiles are discarded each year by Aussies alone. This amounts to approximately 23 kilograms per person, with only a small fraction of this appearing to be being recovered through recycling.

2. FAST FASHION

Fast-changing trends and low prices have allowed people to consume more. In 2014 (compared to 2000) it was recorded that the average person was purchasing 60% more items of clothing, but each garment was kept for half as long.

3. WATER USUAGE
It takes 2700 litres of water to make a single cotton shirt. Thats enough water for a person to drink in 2½ years. Water use and pollution also takes place during clothing production. About 20 percent of industrial water pollution is due to garment manufacturing,  while the world uses 5 trillion litres (1.3 trillion gallons) of water each year for fabric dyeing alone (enough to fill 2 million Olympic-sized swimming pools).
